Poppy Downing
Specialist Neuro Physiotherapist
I gained my BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in 2002 from Keele University. I initially gained a wide range of experience in Physiotherapy during my Junior Rotations at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. In 2004 I decided to specialize in Neurological Physiotherapy and worked as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Acute Stroke and Neurology at New Cross Hospital. In 2005 I moved to the Haywood Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Neurological Rehabilitation. I completed by MSc in Neurological Rehabilitation at Keele University in 2011.
My specialist interest is electrical stimulation and I have an extensive knowledge of functional electrical stimulation and exercise stimulation. I focused many of my Masters Degree projects around electrical stimulation. I also have a special interest in the treatment of patients with Functional Neurological Disorders and Major Trauma.
I have gained specialist skills in spasticity management, gait disorders, casting and upper limb treatment.
I currently work part time on a rehabilitation unit in stoke on Trent and as part of the team at Next Steps Physiotherapy as a specialist physiotherapist leading the functional electrical stimulation (FES) and functional disorders services.
