Specialist Neuro Physiotherapist
I qualified in 1993 with a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of East Anglia. I have has worked as part of the team since 2015 as a specialist neuro physiotherapist. Within the role I work with a number of case managers and individual clients assessing and treating their physiotherapy needs, setting goals and programmes for clients who have complex neurological conditions and/or major trauma. I also provide physiotherapy to a neurological charity in Staffordshire and also to a residential home specialising in Dementia care. I also have a particular interest in Parkinson's Disease and promoting inclusivity in main stream settings such as leisure centres for all people with neurological conditions. This role requires high level of self-motivation and organisational skills.
I have also worked across a wide range of disciplines from Elderly Rehab, paediatrics and intermediate care. This role requires team working and great adaptability and flexibility of working with a need for me to deliver competently and often with limited wider support to meet service needs. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as being able to efficiently prioritise and delegate a varied caseload. I contribute to the on-going in-service training, journal clubs and special interest groups.
Special Interest - I have a special interest in spinal injury, brain injury and neurological conditions with specific reference to rehabilitation, as well as long term management of progressive neurological conditions. My personal interest and personal mission is the integration of people with neurological conditions into mainstream hobbies and activities and developing their self esteem, confidence as well as physical ability through purposeful engagement in activities and sports. I have developed contacts and networks throughout the leisure industries and continue to broaden my knowledge of community possibilities, which may suit my client group.
Teaching - I have acted as Clinical Educator to students, as was pro-active in the development of assistant and technician competencies. I have also been actively engaged in nurse training within the acute setting and support worker/
Training and Development- I continually update my physiotherapy skills by attending regular training courses, reading the latest research papers and taking part in audit and special interest groups.
